Wave Basin

The Wave Basin at IIT Madras is a research facility that unleashes the power of waves! The large test area measuring 30m x 30m is home to a wave generator capable of generating a variety of waves. It is an innovative facility where researchers work on coastal protection, structures, and renewable energy. They study wave behaviour and interactions by performing experimental measurements and accurate simulations.

Gas hydrates and flow assurance lab

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) Flow Assurance and Hydrate Research Laboratory studies gas hydrates and addresses flow assurance challenges in the oil and gas industry. The lab aims to better understand the formation, properties, and behaviour of gas hydrates to develop effective management strategies.

Drilling fluids lab

The Drilling Fluids Laboratory at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is a facility dedicated to drilling fluids, also known as drilling muds, research and testing. Drilling fluids are essential in the drilling process for oil and gas exploration, as well as other drilling operations like geothermal drilling and mining.

Petroleum geomechanics lab

The Petroleum Geomechanics Lab at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is a research facility dedicated to the study of rock mechanical behaviour and its application in the petroleum industry. The geomechanics lab conducts research on how rocks respond to stress and how their properties affect drilling, production, and reservoir management in the petroleum industry.

Ocean optics and imaging lab

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras' Ocean Optics and Imaging Lab is a research facility dedicated to the study of optical properties and imaging techniques related to the ocean environment. The lab is dedicated to developing and applying advanced optical instrumentation and imaging methods for understanding various aspects of the ocean, such as water quality assessment, marine ecosystem dynamics, and underwater imaging.
