What is the climate of Chennai like?

There's no denying it; Chennai is hot and humid for most of the year, as cities right on the coast tend to be (we'd say it's similar to that in Mumbai or Kolkata, lovely coastal cities that can get a bit sweaty). Summers can get very hot, while winters are more pleasant, overcast and windy.

Put on a cap, carry some sunscreen and dress for the weather! But it must be said, the IIT Madras campus is lush green because it borders the Guindy National Forest. It is full of tall shady trees that cool your surroundings and give you a nice respite from the heat.

Dress for the weather!
