Chennai, the vibrant city where IIT Madras is located, boasts a remarkable level of safety. In fact, it has the lowest crime rate against women among 19 major cities in India, surpassing other metropolitan cities like Bengaluru and Mumbai (according to the 2022 data released by the National Crime Records Bureau).
That apart, IITM is very vigilant about safety within the campus. The security personnel around the campus and within each hostel is significant.
In addition, two active bodies have been formed by students, faculty, staff and residents that constantly work towards the safety and equality of genders on campus:
- Women’s Forum
- Complaints Committee against Sexual Harassment (CCASH).
These dedicated teams work tirelessly to foster a culture of safety, respect, and equality on campus.
