Alumni Profile: Kris Gopalakrishnan

Senapathy “Kris” Gopalakrishnan is an Indian business executive and entrepreneur. He is best known as one of the co-founders of Infosys, a multinational information technology and consulting company based in India. Born April 5, 1955 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India, Mr. Gopalakrishnan completed his Bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of Kerala and later earned a MSc in Physics and Master's degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

Gopalakrishnan played a significant role in the growth and success of Infosys. Under his leadership, the company expanded its global footprint, established itself as a major player in the IT industry, and achieved several milestones. He contributed to the development of the company's strategic vision and played a crucial role in driving innovation and research initiatives.

Mr. Gopalakrishnan's commitment to fostering entrepreneurship among young talents became apparent with the establishment of Axilor Ventures in 2014. This initiative showcased his efforts to support and empower emerging entrepreneurs. IIT Madras takes great pride in highlighting the fact that Kris Gopalakrishnan, an alumnus of the institution, was honored with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award by the Government of India in 2011. Furthermore, his influence extended to significant platforms, as he served on influential bodies such as the United Nations Global Compact Board.

Kris Gopalakrishnan has made notable contributions by establishing three prestigious Chairs at his alma mater, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. These Chairs are named in honor of three distinguished individuals: N R Narayana Murthy, C R Muthu Krishnan, and H N Mahabala. These Chairs have been instrumental in advancing research in the field of Computational Brain Research at IIT Madras.
