The Workshop course conducted by the Central Workshop at IIT Madras gives students a chance to apply their theoretical knowledge in real engineering solutions. It imparts future engineers with key skills in development of physical technology through comprehensive sessions, lectures and practicals. Through 10 comprehensive sessions that broadly cover aspects of tools and techniques used in manufacturing, the workshops ensure students are equipped with a better understanding of the materials and components they use:
- Powertools
- Turning
- Milling
- Foundry and Smithy
- Welding
- Electrical
- Electronics
- Pneumatics and Hydraulics
- FRP and Plastics
- Instrumentation and Communication
Workshops are truly a one-of-a-kind experience for every student. The entire notion of creating something out of nothing out of your own hands empowers students to gain confidence in the work that they do and eventually the innovations they ideate.
The Workshops are a compulsory 3-credit course in the First Year of B.Tech at IIT Madras. Using various industrial equipment and techniques, students design and manufacture work pieces, which include wooden pencil stands, molded plastic keychains, printed circuit boards and more! The best part? You get to take your creation home!
