What is Computational Engineering?
Computational Engineering is a growing field that focuses on creating and utilizing computational models for engineering purposes. Currently, there are diverse methodologies encompassed within Computational Engineering, such as employing computational geometry and virtual design for engineering tasks. These approaches often involve a simulation-driven methodology. In Computational Engineering, algorithms are used to solve mathematical and logical models that describe engineering problems, sometimes incorporating elements of AI, particularly Reinforcement Learning.
Which departments offer this course?
The ID-DD program in Computational Engineering draws its curriculum from a diverse range of Engineering and Science disciplines. Several departments, such as Mechanical, Materials & Metallurgy, Mathematics, Physics, Ocean, Applied Mechanics, Civil, Chemical, etc., offer courses within this program.
Who is eligible to apply?
Any undergraduate student pursuing a B. Tech degree at IIT Madras, regardless of their discipline, can qualify for admission to this program, as long as they meet specific minimum academic criteria. The selection process for applicants will be determined by a cutoff based on their Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).
