IITM takes the mental health of its students quite seriously, and has many measures and facilities in place to enhance student wellbeing. The institute has several experienced professional counsellors and specialized mental well-being bodies to help students through issues ranging from academic stress, and adjusting to a new environment to career anxiety or depression. These include:
- SAATHI: A platform that focuses on proactive measures to raise awareness on campus about various pertinent issues. They plan several informal gatherings, lectures, and sessions, throughout the year which are open to all students. They even assign a SAATHI mentor to every fresher, who supports you, helps you navigate the first year and helps get well accustomed to life at IITM.
- MITR: The reactive body of students and faculty which offers support of any sort to students who need it. Almost every department has a faculty MITR whom students can contact in times of need.
- The Wellness Centre, IITM: A body of licensed mental health professionals that offers students emotional support and personal development.
